Children with Acanthosis Nigricans 2021-2022
Texas children enrolled in 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th grades are assessed for the Acanthosis Nigricans marker (AN) -a skin condition that signals high insulin levels and high risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes. 2 of 25 children in Region 1 have the AN marker and are at high risk for developing diabetes type 2. Children with AN also show high rates for obesity and high blood pressure.
